People talk about escapism as if it’s a bad thing… Once you’ve escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn’t have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality.
Neil gaiman can you give me a lengthy answer about the other mother in coraline? Who is she really? How long has she lived? Why didn't the cat help the other children? Are there others like her? What are her powers? Where is she? What if she escaped?

neil-gaiman answered:

1) Not really.

2) She is the beldam.

3) Long. Much longer than a person or a cat.

4) Because it wasn’t born then. Also, it’s a cat. It didn’t help Coraline much.

5) I’m afraid so.

6) You don’t want to know.

7) All of her except the hand is on the other side of the door. The hand is still on this side.

8) That would be bad.

It’s like the people who believe they’ll be happy if they go and live somewhere else, but who learn it doesn’t work that way. Wherever you go, you take yourself with you. If you see what I mean.
