Cover art for the latest batch of Penguin Horror Classics! The series has an introduction by Guillermo del Toro, too. They go on sale September 24th.

These are gorgeous and going straight to the top of my birthday wishlist!

Need.

You’ll have to wait JUST A LITTLE LONGER for these as the on-sale has been pushed back to October 1st, BUT WE AGREE ON THE GORGEOUSNESS AND “NEED.” Pictures can’t even capture how cool these are. So many little details you’ll just have to discover in person!

Read more about the series via EW, who exclusively unleashed these covers yesterday.

“ Mary Shelley’s handwritten poem “Absence”, on the death of her husband. The poem reads:
Ah! he is gone — and I alone;
How dark and dreary seems the time!
‘Tis Thus, when the glad sun is flown,
Night rushes o’er the Indian clime.
Is there no star to...

Is there no star to cheer this night
No soothing twilight for the breast?
Yes, Memory sheds her fairy light,
Pleasing as sunset’s golden west.

And hope of dawn — Oh! brighter far
Than clouds that in the orient burn;
More welcome than the morning star
Is the dear thought — he will return!

I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.

#mary shelley #this quote though #it’s all kinds of wonderful #hey remember that time one asswipe was like you have 30 seconds to name something invented by a woman… #…and Mary was like SCIENCE FICTION MOTHERFUCKERS #that was awesome #thanks Mary Shelley (via snappily)

And the next time someone starts claiming that teenage girls have ruined the horror genre with romance or whatever you can be like, hey dicksmack, teenage girls and romance built your genre so sit the fuck down.

Mary Shelley fucking invented your favourite genre motherfuckers. You owe her Kirk and Vader and every goddamned Joss has ever done that’s made you cream your pants. Created when she was a teenager cause, hey, that’s how she rolled. She took love and showed it as the powerful, terrifying, all-encompassing, ruthless, wrathful thing it is.
